The Room to Improve TV programme was one of the most watched shows on RTE TV 1 in Ireland, on prime time, after the main news, on a Sunday night in February.  The programmes got ratings in excess of  a 53% share of the TV viewership, which is over 1 million viewers in Ireland – a staggering achievement for it’s third season.

Even though it required Daniel and Majella to move out of their Donegal home over Christmas, its ultimate success, as well as the complete re-modelling of their home, albeit at a high cost to them, made it all worthwhile.

Daniel & Majella had been thinking about getting some renovation work done on the house to make it accommodate their needs better.  Shortly after they had been talking about these possible alterations Majella happened to meet Dermot Bannon at an ideal homes exhibition in Dublin’s RDS. He was talking about the importance of light in dark spaces and this rang a bell with her as they had to turn on the light in their kitchen every morning, whether it was a bright day or not. She asked him if he would come up to Donegal to give them some professional advice, as an architect, regarding what changes they should make to the house. He replied that of course he would, but he also asked if they would be willing to have the whole process featured on his Room to Improve Show on RTE.

They thought about it and the rest is history as they say.  Dermot did a fantastic job, literally changing the whole house.  Daniel & Majella just love what they did, there is more light now with bigger widows, plus many other modifications and it turned out absolutely magnificent.
