I hope you are enjoying my new look website and that you are all well.
Last time I wrote, Majella and I were in Chicago ready to embark on our USA Roadtrip for RTE television and what a Roadtrip that turned out to be. Just like the B&B roadtrip in Ireland, we had no idea what was in store for us, or even where we were going to be each day. Needless to say, we were excited and nervous at the same time, but we had a marvellous time and saw some wonderful places and met some wonderful people along the way.
That led us straight into Minot, where the roadtrip finished, and where I did my concert for Norsk Hostfest. I have been playing the festival in North Dakota for many years and was ooking forward to my return visit there. During our short stay, I was very proud to receive the Humanatarian Award from the Scandanavian Hall Of Fame, in recognition of my work for the Romanain Challenge Appeal and other efforts that have contributed to the betterment of humanity. I have to say, I was both humbled and honoured to have been chosen for this prestigious award. Thank you.
From there, we returned home to Ireland, just in time to turn around and go to the UK to do our shows there. As always, it was great to see so many faces I recognised, along with those I didn’t. We had a great time and hope you enjoyed them as much as we did.
Prior to the above, I had a busy few months through the summer. In July I was in Donegal for the Mary From Dungloe festival. I was host and compare for the crowning cabaret which some of you may have seen on TG4 where local girl representing Dungloe Caroline O Donnell was crowned the “Mary from Dungloe 2018”. We also had a fantastic day at the Country Sunday concert, the main street was packed, the atmosphere was electric and we were blessed with the weather.
I was also thrilled to have been honoured by IMRO for my contribution to music and it was especially nice to have it presented in my visitor centre in Dungloe. My good friend Patsy Cavanagh was also presented with an award.
Majella and I had Paul Claffy and Gerry Glennon in our house in Donegal for a Midwest Radio outside broadcast. We really enjoyed the afternoon where we invited neighbours and some local talent and friends from the world of music to sing a few songs. We only had 2 hours and it could have lasted another 2, there was just no stopping us. Thanks to everyone who took part.
Then we headed for our week of shows in Killarney. People travelled from all over the world to be there and as always we had a great time.
It was a great priviledge for me to be included in the celebrations of the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland for The World Meeting of Families. I got the opportunity to sing in Croke Park at the concert on the Saturday night and it really was an incredible honour to get to sing in the presence of the Pope. Again on the Sunday I was thrilled to be able to perform 4 hymns at the lead up to the Papal Mass in Pheonix Park. I was so grateful for the opportunity as it’s something I would never have thought possible when I started my career.
I spent a few days in the UK doing promotion for our tour starting on Oct 1st finishing Oct 14th and also promoting my new album which will be released in November called “Walkin’ in the moonlight”. I was delighted to take part in my good friend Bob Brolly’s show “Brolly and friends” so glad to see he’s doing well after his illness.
Right now, we are in Branson, after having just started our run of dates here and will be here for the full month of November. Then, a quick trip up across the border to Canada – for the Festival of Stars in St.Catherines, ON, just before we return back home once more. To finish of the years touring, we have our four Christmas & More shows, two in southern Ireland and two in the north, and that leads us to Christmas and the new year. Phew ! I get tired just thinking about it.
That’s about all for now, so take care Until the Next time,
