August 11th, Hello from Daniel
Hope these few words find you well. I must apologise for not writing for the past few months. It’s only when I began to write this note that I realised how long it had been since the last letter. Even though I’m on a break from doing shows, I have been keeping myself quite busy.
First of all I must thank all of you who supported the concert in Dungloe in aid of the Hospital. Although weather wise, it was a bad day with rain, the event itself was a wonderful success raising over €30,000. So many of you braved the elements and sat it out through the bad weather and I must say the atmosphere was tremendous, so thank you for that.
I recorded a series of Opry an Iuir for TG4 which will be aired in the Autumn. I even got some of my well known songs translated into Irish which I was pleased about. Majella and I have also just finished recording our B&B road trip through Ireland. We had a great time doing this and again it will be shown on UTV & UTV Ireland in October. I hope it gets to air in other countries as well but as yet we’re not sure, but we’ll keep you informed.
Our biggest news to date was that our little granddaughter Olivia arrived safely on Sunday the 2nd of August. Thank God mother and baby are well. She is just a delight. For those of you who have grandchildren you’ll probably understand the joy she has brought to our lives. Siobhan and Gavin are as proud as any parents can be. Majella and I are so lucky that we are able to spend so much time with them at this early stage and we are already glad to babysit any chance we get. Although I am leaving the nappy changes up to Nana!
The time off has allowed me to do a lot more TV work like the B&B series and this coming week I’m recording the Holiday Of My Lifetime show with Len Goodman. Then next Tuesday I will be singing at the finale of the Rose Of Tralee, this will be shown live on RTE 1.
In May I recorded a new album “The Hank Williams Songbook” featuring some of the many hits written and recorded by the great Hank Williams. I have just finished listening to the cd today and I’m really happy with how it has turned out. It will be released later in the year so I hope you will enjoy it.
I have also just released a new single called “There’s a Blue Moon Over my World”. It was written by a great songwriter here in Donegal called Shaunie Crampsey. When I first heard the song I knew I wanted to record it. I just love the story the song tells, so have a listen and see what you think. Trish will post the link for the video on the website so keep an eye out.
That’s all for now, I’ll not leave it as long the next time
Take care Daniel
