Greetings from Daniel
Hope these few words find you well. We are almost at the end of our UK Christmas tour. We haven’t done our Christmas show in the UK for a number of years and it really has been lovely as we’ve travelled around the different cities, we’ve been joined by local choirs who have added so much to the show.
We spent last month in Branson Missouri and we had a great time. The shows went really well and it was lovely to meet up with many familiar faces. This year more than ever I’m amazed by the amount of first timers coming to the concerts.
The new band has been together now for over a year and although we have had 2 changes, Kane on the fiddle has been replaced by Damien Mc Geehan and James on the bass by Eoin Fennessy. I have to say that they have all really gelled well together and we have a great time both on and off stage.
It’s hard to believe that in September Mary Duff and I celebrated 30 years of performing together. I can still remember the first show that we did in the City Halls in Glasgow on the 24th of September 1987. We could never have imagined all that lay ahead. We really have been very blessed and we are grateful to you and everyone who has followed and continues to follow us in everything we do.
In September we had our first ever coast to coast Canadian trip and we really enjoyed it. Coming from such a small country as Ireland we were all just amazed at the distances that we travelled from one show to the other. It was our first time to use a sleeper bus in that we all had our own bunks to sleep in as we travelled. It was a new experience and one that I enjoyed immensely. I’ve always wanted to tour like this and I hope it’s something that we can continue to do.
During the summer I was in the studio recording a new album. We have released one of the songs as a radio single. It’s an original song written by an Irish song writer PJ Murrihy called “The Plains of Old Kildare”. If you heard it I hope you like it.
For the last few weeks It’s really busy with a lot of promotion as our “Christmas with Daniel” album and DVD was released in the UK and Ireland. We were thrilled again with the album entering the charts so I’d like to thank you for your continued support in all I do.
Some of you may know that Majella and I are having our house in Donegal renovated on the TV show in Ireland called Room to Improve. This show is presented by an architect called Dermot Bannon. He puts together a plan to remodel the houses and although we only wanted a few things done, he has completely changed the layout of the house. It really is very exciting and we can’t wait for it all to be finished. However this means that we will not spend our Christmas in Donegal and as you know this is something that I really enjoy however we are going to get to spend it with our daughter Siobhan, her husband Gavin and our granddaughter Olivia in their new home. Olivia now is becoming a real little person in her own right. Full of chat and lots of fun and of course she has Gaga wrapped around her little finger and I enjoy every minute of it.
We’re looking forward to Christmas. This really has been a very busy year, my busiest in a long time. And indeed the year ahead looks to be just as busy so the down time over Christmas and the New Year will be very welcome. Majella and I plan to go to Tenerife after Christmas and it will be nice to get some warm weather and I will sharpen up on my golf game that I have really neglected in the past while. Of course the most exciting thing for us is awaiting the arrival of our second grandchild in January. So please God all will go well for Siobhan and the baby.
We look forward to seeing you when we start touring again in 2018. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy, peaceful and healthy Christmas and we hope the New Year will be all you want it to be.
Thanks again for your support and Until the Next Time
