Daniel O'Donnell

Greetings from Daniel

Hi there. I hope these few words find you well and that you had a lovely Christmas as we did. Christmas Eve for me was very busy. In the morning I went to Letterkenny to take part in Highland Radio’s annual Christmas Eve show with Shaun Doherty. Then it was back to Dungloe to sing with the Burtonport Variety Group, who raise money for charity every year by singing Carols. As always, I joined the choir in our local church for midnight mass. There really is something very special about this service for me. After mass, as we have done for many years, we went back to my sister Kathleen’s house for homemade soup. On Christmas Day we went back to Kathleen’s house for dinner with all the family. Michael, Siobhan, Gavin and of course Olivia were with us all over the Christmas holidays and we had the nicest time. It really is fantastic having a child in the house at Christmas time. She really is the light of our lives. St Stephen’s Day we had some friends over for dinner and just like every other year we just ate far too much.
Looking back to the last few weeks I have to say that I have been really busy! On December 13th we recorded a show in Powerscourt in Co Wicklow for RTE television that was aired on St Stephen’s Day. Television is something I always enjoy doing and this show, in particular, I thoroughly enjoyed hosting. It had such a variety of guests. Kristina Rhianoff flew over to perform The American Smooth with me one more time which was really nice. Other guests on the night included Pat Short, Packie Bonner, Derek Ryan, Keith Barry, Una Foden, Declan Nearney and Shane Filan. I hope that any of you who got to see it enjoyed the show.
I also recorded a show for Irish TV with Gerry and Paul that was on Television Christmas night and that was a lot of fun. Gerry and Paul really are a hoot!!
Then it was time to fly back to the UK for the Strictly Come Dancing final. It was so good to be back with all the other contestants again. Thank God I had no nerves or pressure and it was just good fun. I was thrilled for Jay Mc Guinness to be crowned the winner. He really is a lovely lad. I have no doubt that lifelong friendships were formed during my time on Strictly and this is something I will take away from my experience on the show.
Next week Majella and I embark on our round the world cruise!! This is something we decided to do when Majella was having her treatment. After such a busy year we are both so looking forward to spending some time together with nothing to do.
I have no more news for now. I’m not sure when I’ll get writing again but maybe Trish will update you with some of our cruising experiences over the next few months.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy 2016 and please God, we’ll get to see some of you at one of our shows in 2016.

God Bless
