Daniel O'Donnell

Hello from Daniel

Hello there,

As I write this we are in Niagara Falls doing shows for the Festival of Stars. We had our first show yesterday and one more to do today.

It’s been a busy time since we started back In August in Killarney, we’ve toured a lot and it’s been really great seeing everybody again.  Our shows in the UK went down brilliant and it was great seeing so many familiar faces after the shows and indeed meeting some new ones as well.  I did manage to get a week in Tenerife before going to Branson and as always, that was a lovely break.  I think I might have told you that I took Bridge lessons while we were on the cruise. At our local bridge club while I was at home, I won first prize in one of our weekly competitions, so I was well pleased with that.

We had a great time in Branson in November.  This year we moved to the Lawrence Welk Theatre and we loved our new location.  Prior to going to Branson, we did a number of shows in Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin. This was the first time that the people on this side of the Atlantic have seen the new band and just like me, they think they are doing a great job.

Majella and I were delighted that the B&B road trip won an award at the IFTA’s. This is the equivalent of the BAFTA awards in the UK, not sure what the equivalent is in other parts of the world, but I’m sure you can figure out what I mean.  We were thrilled that the show was even nominated for the award and just couldn’t believe when it was announced the winner.

At the minute we are really busy rehearsing for the Christmas shows in Dublin this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is so much to learn for myself, Mary and all the band members but we are really looking forward to doing the shows and I hope anyone who is attending the shows will enjoy the programme we have put together.  Part of this show will be on TV on RTE 1 at 9.30pm on Christmas Eve.

This year for the first time ever we have decided to spend Christmas in Tenerife.  It will be my first time away from Ireland at Christmas and, although I’m sure I will miss the opportunity to sing at mass in Kincasslagh, we are delighted that Michael and his girlfriend Sarah and Siobhan, Gavin and Olivia will all join us for this special time of year.  Not sure how the turkey will taste in the heat though!!! We have another big family event at the beginning of February when my niece and PA Patricia, who travels with me on my tours, and who I’m sure many of you know, gets married to her boyfriend Neil Swan. As I look out into 2017, I’m looking forward to going to all the places that are booked touring wise and meeting up with many of you again. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to wish you and yours a very happy Christmas and everything that you wish for yourselves in 2017. God Bless, Daniel
