Hello from Daniel
I hope these few words find you all well. As I write this Majella and I are in Chicago ready to embark on our USA Roadtrip for RTE television tomorrow. Just like the B&B roadtrip in Ireland we have no idea what’s in store for us or even where we are going until we start our journey each day. So we are excited and nervous all rolled in to one.
I’ve had a busy few months. In July I was in Donegal for the Mary From Dungloe festival. I was host and compare for the crowning cabaret which some of you may have seen on TG4 where local girl representing Dungloe Caroline O Donnell was crowned the “Mary from Dungloe 2018”. We also had a fantastic day at the Country Sunday concert, the main street was packed, the atmosphere was electric and we were blessed with the weather.
I was also thrilled to have been honoured by IMRO for my contribution to music and it was especially nice to have it presented in my visitor centre in Dungloe. My good friend Patsy Cavanagh was also presented with an award.
Majella and I had Paul Claffy and Gerry Glennon in our house in Donegal for a Midwest Radio outside broadcast. We really enjoyed the afternoon where we invited neighbours and some local talent and friends from the world of music to sing a few songs. We only had 2 hours and it could have lasted another 2, there was just no stopping us. Thanks to everyone who took part.
Then we headed for our week of shows in Killarney. People travelled from all over the world to be there and as always we had a great time.
It was a great priviledge for me to be included in the celebrations of the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland for The World Meeting of Families. I got the opportunity to sing in Croke Park at the concert on the Saturday night and it really was an incredible honour to get to sing in the presence of the Pope. Again on the Sunday I was thrilled to be able to perform 4 hymns at the lead up to the Papal Mass in Pheonix Park. I was so grateful for the opportunity as it’s something I would never have thought possible when I started my career.
I spent a few days in the UK doing promotion for our tour starting on Oct 1st finishing Oct 14th and also promoting my new album which will be released in November called “Walkin’ in the moonlight”. I was delighted to take part in my good friend Bob Brolly’s show “Brolly and friends” so glad to see he’s doing well after his illness.
At the end of the month we’ll be back in Minot North Dakota for ths hostfest and I’m thrilled to have received a nomination to the Scandanavian Hall of Fame for the Humanatarian award in recognition of my work for the Romanain Challenge Appeal and other efforts that have contributed to the betterment of humanity. I have been playing the festival in North Dakota for many years so I’m looking forward to my return visit.
Our UK tour starts in Oct so I look forward to seeing many of you at the shows, then it will be time for Branson again.
That’s about all for now, God knows where Day 1 of our roadtrip will take us! We know we start in Chicago and end in Minot but who knows where we are inbetween, so take care Until the Next time,
