Nov 21st 2014, Update from Daniel
Greetings from Branson. As I write this note I’m sitting in our cabin in Branson, Missouri. It’s a lovely hot sunny afternoon but boy it hasn’t been like that all the time we’ve been here. We’ve had the coldest weather I’ve ever experienced since I first came here in 1997. One night in particular it went down to 19 F / -7c. These calculations might not be exact but they are as near as I can go in my head. So it was “Winter Woollies” all the way. However it didn’t deter people from coming to our shows. We’ve had a great stay here with only 2 shows left tomorrow and Saturday. It’s been a very special time to be here in Branson for me this year. Number 1 it was great having Majella with me, as you know last year she was going through treatment at this time, so thank God everything has gone well for her. Her book “It’s all in the Head” has been a huge success having reached number 1 in its category for 3 consecutive weeks in Ireland. From a musical point of view it’s been an exciting time to be here too as last Sunday night I got to see my favourite male country singer perform, the great Charlie Pride and he put on a fantastic show. This Sunday night my all-time favourite is performing here, the one and only Loretta Lynn and I needn’t tell you how much I am looking forward to that.
We still have a few things to do before Christmas. We have our 2 shows in St Catherine’s in Niagara Falls at the start of December. Then of course we’ll be home for Christmas. This Christmas will be very different for us all, as it will be the first without my mother. She will be greatly missed by all of us, as she loved having all the family home for Christmas. I have to say I am looking forward to singing at the dance on the 28th of December at the Villa Rose in Ballybofey along with David Craig and his band and Grainne Gavigan. All proceeds are going to the charity “Mammy I want to walk fund”. This is for a little boy who has to have revolutionary surgery in the United States so that he will be able to walk. The family have to raise €60,000 before March when the surgery will take place.
As some of you may know on May 18th past I was meant to sing at a concert to raise funds for our local hospital in Dungloe. Unfortunately that concert had to be cancelled as my mother died that morning. The concert has now been rescheduled for May 17th 2015. It will be an open air concert on the main street in Dungloe. Tickets will go on sale before Christmas and Trish will update you with all the details prior to the on sale date. This will be the only concert I will do between February 2015 and August 2016. I’m hoping it will be a wonderful success as I know first-hand the wonderful care my mother received from all of the staff in the hospital before her death.
