Oct 4th 2014, RIP George Hamilton IV

A few week’s ago Country music lost one of it’s “Greats” when George Hamilton IV sadly passed away after suffering a heart attack at the age of 77. There are probably many gentlemen in country music, but George was definitely standing at the head of them. I knew George well, having met him back in the 1980’s. The first time I was on the Grand Ole Opry, it was George who invited me on as a guest. George actually presented me with a gold disc in 1988 at the Country Music Festival in Wembley, London, for sales of one of my early albums. He was quite inspirational to meet. He was a man of great faith and I think that shone through in every- thing he did. And I’m sure there were a few pints of Irish blood some- where within him because he had a great affinity with Ireland. When you’d go to Nashville and the Opry, if George was there you’d be treated like royalty. He just extended a wonderful hand of friendship. And I know that everybody experienced that from him, not just me.The last time I was
there with Majella we met George and he was so welcoming.  He will be sadly missed by all his many fans. May he rest in peace.
